THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE

Regardless of which side of the political aisle you align yourself, there were some words spoken that were very impressive.  They revealed the spirit of a Nation that has the capability of being united, which were the original plans of the founding fathers.  Both the outgoing President and the newly elected President when queried by our ever meddling news media to make comments that would reflect on the other person.  They answered, “There is one President at a time.”

President Obama, when asked how he would handle certain situations prior to his officially being sworn in as President, reminded the press, “There is only one President at a time.”  When President Bush was asked how he was going to respond to the actions of President-elect Obama, he (President Bush answered, “There is only one President at a time.”  Now I know that many of the all-knowing individuals will “punch” holes in these statements. However, to me, a person who is always learning, they expressed the spirit of unity.  Unity defeats the plans of the adversary.

From the time of Christ to Abraham Lincoln and even up until our age, wise men have recognized that a Nation divided against itself cannot stand.  Satan uses the spirit of division to divide the religious world.  His motto is “divide and conquer.  Satan knows if he can create a divided allegiance to God he can triumph over the man and the church as a whole.  It is for this reason that Jesus prayed for unity (John 17: 20), Paul begged for unity (I Corinthians 1:10) and encouraged the Ephesians Christians, “I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, entreat you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, showing forbearance to one another in love, being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace” (Ephesians 4:1-3 NASB).

This unity in Christ comes about when Christians are aware of and understand that their allegiance can be to only one God.  In the sixth verse of the fourth chapter of the book of Ephesians, Paul writes, “one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all”. There can be only one God in your life as a Christian and God will not allow any Being, person, or thing to replace Him, “I am the LORD, that is My name; I will not give My glory to another, Nor My praise to graven images” (Isaiah 42:8 NASB).

Men seek after fame, prosperity, and power but I seek after only one God; He is the reason for my existence, "The God who made the world and all things in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands; neither is He served by human hands, as though He needed anything, since He Himself gives to all life and breath and all things…” (Acts 17:24-25 NASB). Not only is He the reason for my existence but He has within His power the knowledge of my time on this earth which He has not revealed to me, but I trust Him, “…and He made from one, every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times, and the boundaries of their habitation” (Acts 17:26 NASB).

The God who has always lived and will always be, the God who knows everything, hears everything, and is everywhere still took the time to give to someone so insignificant as man “hope” and out of love allow us to be His children, “…that they should seek God, if perhaps they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; for in Him we live and move and exist, as even some of your own poets have said, 'For we also are His offspring” (Acts 17:27-28 NASB).  How is all this possible?  Because God is the only God, "I am the LORD, and there is no other; Besides Me there is no God” (Isaiah 45:5 NASB).  RB
